Overview SOUTHERN STAR was the epitome of luxury yacht design in her day. Her loving owners of the past 20 years have continued to maintain and improve her. Now, as they contemplate a larger yacht, SOUTHERN STAR is offered for sale.
Accommodations SOUTHERN STAR sleeps 8 owners and guests in 3 staterooms. Crew accommodations include 3 berths in 2 staterooms, and 2 heads and showers. The Captain's quarters are separate. The vessel has a minimum of 6'7" headroom throughout.
Owner and Guest Staterooms The staterooms are accessed by a stairway from the main salon, aft to port. The owner's stateroom is all the way aft, with an escape hatch to the lazarette and up to the aft deck. The owner's berth is king sized, on centerline and there is a large amount of built-in drawer and storage space beneath and on both sides of the bed as well as double hanging lockers port and starboard. Against the forward bulkhead to port is a built-in vanity and lighted mirror, and opposite to starboard is the owner's head, complete with tub and shower. There is a built-in color TV in this stateroom along with phone, intercom, and stereo speaker systems.
Forward from the master stateroom are two identical guest staterooms, each with twin lower berths and an extra pullman berth which folds up alongside the inboard bulkhead when not in use. There are reading lamps over each berth, and a built in cabinet between the twin beds. There are full length hanging lockers in each stateroom along with built-in dresser drawers. Each guest stateroom has its own head with Corian vanity top, updated fixtures, and enclosed stall showers. Both guest staterooms have stereo speakers and intercom phones; one stateroom has a color television.
Off the hallway dividing the owners cabin from the guest cabins there is a closet for the aft washer and dryer, along with another closet for linens and for a small refrigerator.
Main Deck The stairway from the stateroom area leads up to the main salon which is furnished with chairs, cocktail table, and sofa. An aft cabinet in the main salon houses the color television. Built into the teak forward bulkhead is the entertainment center with am/fm tuner, CD & DVD player, and surround sound amplifier. Aft to starboard is a single door to the full width aft salon, furnished with dining table and chairs, aft bench seating, and a teak wet bar on the forward bulkhead with sink, refrigerator, ice maker, and storage for glassware and bottles.
A center gate at the aft railing provides access to the teak decked fishing cockpit with built-in freezer, sink, tackle center, live bait well, insulated fish box, and two Rybovich sailfish chairs. There is a center transom door and a full width swim platform.
Forward from the main salon on the starboard side is the main deck powder room. Next forward is the stairway access to the semi-raised pilothouse with access to the flybridge from the pilothouse. The pilothouse has a bench seat to port and sliding doors port and starboard for access to the walkaround side decks.
Next forward on the main deck is the galley and the formal dining salon. Separated by the stairway to the crew quarters below, the galley is nearly full width and has opening windows on both sides. See GALLEY appliances below.
The dining salon is all the way forward on the main deck with storage built into the forward bulkhead for table service. A teak oblong table with matching chairs comfortably seats eight.
Crew Quarters Crew accommodations are in the lower level, forward of the walk-in engine room, and are accessed by the stairway between the galley and the dining salon. There is a crew cabin forward which sleeps two with a private head. Aft to starboard is the captain’s cabin with its own head and shower ensuite. Opposite to port is the crew lounge which can be converted to a double berth. There is a television in the crew lounge, along with a small refrigerator, separate freezer, and stacked Asko washer and dryer. Separating the crew quarters from the chain locker is a watertight bulkhead with a watertight door for access.
Flybridge Flybridge access is via a stairway on the starboard side of the pilothouse. On the bridge is the center helm seat, a large L-shaped bench seat to port, and a full width lounge seat across the aft edge of the boat deck. New seat covers and cushions (6/94). In the middle of the boat deck, incorporated into the base of the radar mast, is a built-in wet bar with refrigerator, icemaker, and sink. Three davits on the boat deck enable launching the Boston Whaler and other water sport vehicles.
Galley The Galley as previously indicated, is located on the deck level, forward of the pilothouse. Large windows port and starboard, tremendous overhead and indirect lighting, and spacious counter tops make the galley a pleasant place to work. Equipped with side by side refrigerator/freezer/icemaker, four burner range, convection oven, microwave, dishwasher, trash compactor, double porcelain sinks, and disposal, the galley is comparable to most household kitchens.
To supplement the galley stores, there is a freezer in the crew quarters and a large Frigibar freezer/refrigerator mounted on the flybridge. Also, there are icemakers on the flybridge and aft deck, and refrigerators/freezers on the aft deck, in the cockpit, and in the foyer/linen area aft below. Also, as with all BURGERS, there is abundant dry storage in every practical part of the ship.
As noted, there are laundry facilities (washer & dryer) both in the crew quarters and aft in the owner and guest stateroom area. There is a central vacuum system that services the entire vessel.

Teak Deck & Hull The cockpit extension was added in 1979 by Derecktor/Gunnell Shipyard, utilizing plans drawn by J. B. Hargrave in conjunction with BURGER BOAT COMPANY. The lines were followed beautifully and the result not only looks terrific but the addition has also enhanced the performance of the yacht in terms of speed and handling.

Engines, electrical components, air conditioning, marine sanitation systems, and navigational electronics are just a short list of the major items that have received attention.

Remarks SOUTHERN STAR is one of the wide beam, venerable BURGER hulls that will keep going and going. Her long range fuel capacity, high forward bulwarks, a full keel, and the raised pilothouse configuration will be recognized by experienced yachtsmen as the right ingredients for serious offshore passage making. She also has the versatility of cruising at reasonable planing speeds under light load. This desirable yacht has great deal of market appeal and is now seriously for sale. Purchasers are strongly advised to move quickly to take advantage of this excellent opportunity. Owner will consider trade for larger yacht.
